ORDINARY MONUMENT

Uses common construction materials—drywall, gypsum board, joint compound, and plywood—as both surface and subject. Typically concealed within walls and treated as structural background, these standardized materials are brought forward and repositioned as primary forms.

By isolating and recontextualizing them, I examine the physical and symbolic frameworks that shape contemporary life, exposing the systems we rely on but rarely see. What is meant to remain hidden becomes focal; what is assumed temporary begins to read as permanent. Removed from their functional roles, these materials reveal the fragility and labor embedded within the architectures we inhabit, asking what we choose to monumentalize—and what we choose to conceal.
